With the bridal season knocking, our designers are busy as the bees churning out the chicest of bridal haute couture and reception pret-a-porter lines. With that being said and keeping in mind the hullabaloo of the Big Fat Indian Wedding, do you think our brides to be would leave anything to chance? This would be an obvious no, especially when it comes to dressing up for the big day. The wedding look is the ultimate one every bride wants to score brownie points on, and she would settle for nothing less than a princessy touch for the grand event of her life.
She wants to look and feel beautiful on her special day
At her wedding, our bride-to-b doesn’t just want to look her best; she wants to be the best. And there is no better way for her to do the same than to have the right makeup and the bridal wear worn, which would up the ante on fashion, glamour and confidence. However, some would-be brides have that part of the body which they aren’t comfortable with or about - plump arms - BAT WINGS to be precise. However, that shouldn’t be a problem anymore; there are bridal ensembles that help hide, camouflage or distract the onlooker's gaze from her problematic arms. And the ensembles well-chosen would still be able to bring on that regal, royal and gorgeous makeover; she needs on her big day. So what are the recommendations? Here are seven important tips when choosing bridal wear for women with plump arms.
Opt for three-quarter or long-sleeved bridal cholis and tops
Three-quarter sleeves or long sleeves would cover the plump arms for sure, but would be a stylish touch to the bridal look as well. For the winter weddings, you could opt for cholis or bridal tops that are made from velvet for a very regal touch, with embroidery on the sleeves borders; brocade too would be a nice fabric choice too. Summer weddings can have brides wearing bridal cholis in silks, satins, semi touches of crochet and more - a perfect win-win situation. On one side you get to cover up the arms, and on the other side you get to flaunt a vintage retro look!
Avoid the batwings with the elbow rescues
When choosing bridal blouses, cholis and ethnic tops that have three-quarter length sleeves, the aim should be to not only cover the plumpness of the arms but to make the arms look slim and long too. Avoid puffed sleeves and caps on the cholis or blouses that make the arms look big, bigger or biggest. Bulky cap sleeves are not advisable to wear, since they add more bulk to the upper arm section. What you should look for are sleeves that do not end at the widest sections of the upper arms. Don’t give into temptations by picking up sleeves with puffs and caps that have gorgeous designs or you may end up emulating the HULK!
Dark hues reflect less light and make the arms look slim
Anything but red, say the new-age brides. If you aren’t wearing your bridal trousseau in deep reds for your wedding, opting for darker hues with minimal embroidery on the bridal cholis would be one of the best ways to camouflage the plumpness on your arms. Why does this happen? The answer is simple - lighter colours reflect more light, which means, more bulge, wrinkles, crease lines, etc. on the garment would be seen - the same wouldn’t be with darker hues that wont highlight the problematic plumpness you don’t want to flaunt at the wedding!
Play with layers and more of it
If the climes are nippy or if it is a winter wedding, the concept of layering comes in handy. Shawls and jackets, cardigans and shrugs can be used as layers to embellish the bridal choli with and to cover the plump arms too. The style and colour should be apt and in sync with that of the bridal trousseau though. And change your layered toppings - one for the wedding rituals and another for the reception are a must, or else it would be all too evident that you are trying to hide something that you aren’t too fond off.
Distract with chunky bold accessories
Brides can further play the hiding game with the help of chunky charms; accessories to be precise. The bridal wear can be further enhances with bold blingy statements that distract the eyes of the onlooker and draws attention to other parts on the body, rather than the arms. No more fretting about the large arms, rather focus on the assets best on you to flaunt them. Wear attention grabbing Kamar bandhs to flaunt the curves on your waist, a chunky statement neckpiece to flaunt the neck or maybe a chic mang tikka to flaunt the hairdo. Dramatic and bold chaandbaalis for the ears or jhumkas too can help further distract the gaze!
Chubby arms hidden in strapless numbers
New-age brides don’t mind showing off a little skin at their wedding, which is why strapless bridal wear in India is now a rage too. However, if you thought having chubby arms would stop you from flaunting a strapless number, you were wrong. The best tip here to camouflage the chubbiness would be by letting the bridal hairdo fall over the shoulders and the arms, with chic hair accessories embossed that distract the onlookers gaze. Further embellish the shoulders and arms with a stole or a cardigan, or a shawl as per the climes.
Choose the right fabric for the bridal tops and cholis
From fluffy sleeves to sheer fabrics, and ruffles to capes as well; if the sleeves stop right before the elbows, it would be a fashion disaster that would ruin the bridal look. Take the sleeves three-fourth and a little more than the elbow section and allow it to freely fall. This would camouflage the problematic plumpness and keep you chic look at your wedding too.
